Cathy Bailey |

Cathy Bailey has a post-doctoral research background in human geography and health with past clinical experience in hospital, community and terminal care nursing. Her research experience includes working on a number of public health funded, community studies. These include: the health and social consequences of the UK 2001 foot and mouth disease epidemic for a rural community; neighbourhood renewal and community identity; household trauma and the 2005 UK floods and storms and the role of woodlands and green spaces in promoting community and individual health and well being. Recently Cathy was involved in a multidisciplinary Irish research programme: Technology Research for Independent Living (TRIL www.trilcentre.org), and worked from within a falls and older adults research strand. She developed and is publishing a research portfolio on the social aspects of falling. She has hands on experience of being part of technologically innovative, multidisciplinary teams, designing and testing technology prototypes in participants’ homes.
Within ICSG Cathy has designed, managed, developed and facilitated an older adults’ user forum - ‘Who Cares for Older Citizens in County Galway, Ireland’ – a six day event. Cathy had teaching input into ICSG’s Diploma in Social Gerontology course and has supervised Diploma, First and Master degree level students. Cathy has experience of preparing a national, regional and local archive of the data from a large diary based, qualitative study
As an associated researcher with ICSG, Cathy continues to work closely with older people to promote a holistic and positive view of ageing.
