
Aine Ni Leime joined the Irish Centre for Social Gerontology in April, 2006 where she is employed as a researcher. She is also responsible for teaching and course co-ordination. Her research interests include research methodology, sociology of the labour market, equality issues including gender and ageing, rural development, social gerontology and critical theory.
Educational achievements include a BA (Economics, Sociology and Women’s Studies) in 1996, and an MA in Economics at NUI, Galway in 2000 on carers in Ireland . She is currently engaged in a PhD in Sociology in Trinity College , Dublin – a qualitative study of decision-making among older Irish workers. She has worked on several research projects in NUI, Galway including EU-funded projects such as Integrated Development in Agricultural and Rural Areas (IDARA) and SHASEA, an agri-environmental project based primarily in China . She has taught several courses at all levels from Diploma to MA. Her teaching has been in a number of disciplines including Economics, Sociology, Women’s Studies and Rural Development. Her research interests include research methodology, social policy in relation to gender and ageing, sociology of the labour market, rural development, social gerontology and critical theory. She has presented papers at national and international conferences including the International Association for Feminist Economics annual conference in 2002 and most recently at the Sociological Association of Ireland annual conference (2005, 2006). She is a founder member of the European Association for Feminist Economics.
